History
• Clyde W. Tombaugh discovered dwarf planets
on February 18, 1930
• They got the dwarf planet name its name from
a roman god of the underworld

Pluto’s order from the sun is nine
Distance is 6 billion kilometers
Orbital period is 248 years
Rotation is 6 Earth days for Pluto
Moons
• Pluto has five moons
• Pluto’s moon names are Charon, Styx,
Nix, Kerberos, and Hydra
Planet appearance
• Pluto’s is gray and looks like a gray rock
• People first saw it as red but it was
actually gray.
• Pluto consists of rock with a very thick
coating of ice

The rover was sent
to Pluto the rovers
name was the
horizon
Photos of dwarf planets

planets and it compared
to earth
Exploration
• Charon was the name given to Pluto’s
satellite when it was found in 1930.
This photo shows the rover sent to
Pluto for the first time.
•
Facts of other planets
• Because it is so far away from the sun it is
very cold with temperatures ranging from 235 Degrees Celsius to -210 Degrees
Celsius.
• Pluto was the smallest planet and furthest
planet away from the sun in our solar
system, now it’s not even officially
recognized as a planet!
Facts of other planets
• Ceres is located in the asteroid belt
between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. It
was discovered in 1801. Ceres was
considered a planet for around 50 years
before being reclassified as an asteroid
and once again in 2006 as a dwarf planet.
• Eris was discovered in 2005 ans was
referred to as the tenth planet until it was
reclassified in 2006. It is the largest of the
dwarf planets.
Facts of other planets
• Make make was discovered in 2005 and
the third largest dwarf planet behind Eris
and Pluto
• Haumea was discovered in 2004 and
named a dwarf dwarf planet in 2008
• If you weigh 76 pounds you will weigh 5
pounds on any dwarf planet.
Extra stuff
• Pluto’s atmosphere is made of nitrogen
with some carbon monoxide and methane.

orbit

planets
This is the solar system of the dwarf planets the rest of the Dwarf
Planets are in the Kuiper belt.
Moons of the other
dwarf planets
• Haumea has 2 moons Hi’iaka and
Namaka
• Rest of the dwarf planets don’t have and
moons just Haumea has a moon

History for other dwarf planets
• Ceres was discovered by Giuseppe Piazzi
on January 1, 1801
• Jose Luis Ortiz discovered Haumea on
march 2003
• Make make was discovered by a team of
astronomers led by mike brown in march
2005
• Eris was also discovered by mike brown
again January on January 5, 2005
