Exam-Prep Jepperdee:
General-Class Edition
Operation of the game is almost intuitive, and you
can make up your own rules. Each numeric point value
on either game board is a hyperlink which reveals
either a question or the Daily Double banner. Advancing
the game one slide past the question (by clicking the
screen) displays the answer. “Back” on the answer slide
returns you to the game board. “SFJ” stands for “semifinal jepperdee” and “FJ” means “final jepperdee;”
proceed by clicking screen until you see the next
hyperlink. There is one Daily Double on each board;
click on “Here.”
For most fun, appropriate hardware (lights, pushbuttons, sounder, lockout circuitry) should be used. A
simple diagram is given on the next slide.

Why must the
cases of some large
power transistors be
insulated from
ground?

the collector or
drain voltage to
ground

back
What would be the
RMS voltage across a
50 ohm dummy load
dissipating 1200
G5B12
watts?
245 volts
back
What’s the name

varies the freq. of an
RF wave to convey
information?
G8A03
Frequency
modulation
back
For what mode is
a Class C PA stage
appropriate for a
modulated signal?
G7B11
CW

Assuming a ground
rod is used, what might
be the problem if you
get RF burns by touching equipment which is
transmitting on HF?
G4C05
The ground wire
has high
impedance on
that frequency
back
When using 3 kHz
wide LSB, how close to
the lower edge of the
40-m phone segment
should your displayed
carrier frequency be?
G4D10
At least 3 kHz

Discriminator
back
When are messages
sent via digital modes
exempt from Part 97
third party rules that
apply to other modes of
communication?
G1E12
