LRBT Free Eye Care Hospital –Lar (Multan) Pakistan
LRBT Lar (Multan) Free Eye care Hospital provides free eye care services to a
population of over 13 million people living in the Districts of Bahawalpur, Dera Gazi Khan,
Khanewal, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur & Multan. These are one of the most under developed
areas of Pakistan and lack provision of basic necessities of life. More than 2/3rds of the
population of these areas live around the poverty line barely subsisting and have no money
to pay for their health care needs. One of the major health issues of people of this area is
Blindness which makes the afflicted person a dependant and a burden on their family who
are already on the margin of existence. The sad part of it is that 80% of the blindness is
curable and can be cured through a simple operation costing $ 25.
Since its inception in 1999 to end August 2009, LRBT Lar (Multan) Free Eye Care
Hospital has provided services to 768,509 eye-patients in OPD and restored the sight of
100,802 patients through surgeries –free all of cost. Every day an average over 240
outpatients visit the hospital’s OPD of which 44 undergo surgeries. All services are
performed absolutely free.
