Biome, Ecosystem, Habitat
(Marine Cadence)
By: Patsi Wagner
We just know what we've been told,
A biome's worth its weight in gold.
Biomes have defined climates.
Biomes have plants and animals.
Sound off - Biome
Sound off - Defined climate
Sound off – 1, 2, 3, 4 plants and animals!
Within a biome are ecosystems,
Where living and non-living things interact.
Each organism has a role to play.
They must be interdependent everyday!
Sound off - Ecosystem
Sound off - Interact
Sound off – 1, 2, 3, 4 interdependence!
Within each ecosystem are habitats,
A place where interdependent organisms live.
The habitat supplies food and water,
Temperature, oxygen, and minerals.
Sound off - Habitat
Sound off - Interdependence
Sound off - 1, 2, 3, 4 survival!
The Energy Connection
Written by: Karen Hernandez
Plants, bacteria, and algae are PRODUCERS three.
They use photosynthesis you see.
They absorb the energy from the sun,
And use carbon dioxide before they’re done,
Converting it to food for living things.
CONSUMERS eat producers for energy.
Herbivores eat only plants or trees.
Carnivores eat meat,
And omnivores eat both things,
But scavengers find dead animals to eat.
DECOMPOSERS recycle energy from dead things.
Their job is more important than you think.
Earthworms, fungi, and bacteria
Decompose materials in every area,
So that producers can use them once again.
Ecosystems Here, Ecosystems There
By: K. Gooding
Ecosystems here, ecosystems there,
Ecosystems, ecosystems everywhere!
Rich rain forests flourishing effortlessly,
Parched deserts surviving interdependently,
Sparse tundra existing harshly,
And expansive grasslands rolling endlessly.
Ecosystems in the ocean
Ecosystems on every continent
Ecosystems near the coast
And ecosystems around the world
Ecosystems here, ecosystems there,
Ecosystems, ecosystems everywhere!
Ecosystems! Ecosystems! Ecosystems!
IS THIS AN ECOSYSTEM?
By: Marcia Brechtel
Is this an ecosystem?
Is this an ecosystem?
Where is it placed?
Where is it placed?
Yes, ma'am.
Yes, ma'am.
It's in the desert.
It's in the desert.
Does it have 6 parts?
Can you tell me all?
Well, what is the first?
And what does it do?
Yes, ma'am.
Yes, ma'am.
The sun of course.
Gives heat and light.
And what comes next?
And what's non-living?
Give me some examples.
Two more examples.
Non-living.
It's never lived.
Water and dirt.
Wind and sand.
And what comes third?
And what are producers?
Give me some examples.
What do they do?
Producers.
All the plants.
Cactus and bushes.
Make their own food.
And what comes fourth?
And what are consumers?
Give me some examples.
What do they do?
Primary consumers.
Plant eaters.
Rabbits and kangaroo rats.
They eat the plants.
And what comes fifth?
And what are these?
Give me some examples.
And what do they do?
Secondary consumers.
Meat eaters.
Cougars and eagles.
They eat other animals.
What comes sixth?
And what are these?
Give me some examples.
And what do they do?
Decomposers.
They live off the dead.
Mushrooms and bacteria.
Break down dead things.
Well, now, are you through?
Did you tell me true?
And what did you chant?
And what did you chant?
Yes, ma'am.
Yes, ma'am.
An ecosystem.
An ecosystem.
Three Functions of Life
(To the tune of: “Three Blind Mice”)
words by Kären Woodward
Three functions of life
Three functions of life
See how they live
See how they eat
Producers, consumers, and decomposers
Producers, consumers, and decomposers
Three functions of life.
