Hello Drama and Theatre Arts Teachers!! (or anyone else reading for that matter!)
What could possibly be better than showcasing some of the best talent in your school in front of an
appreciative audience? With the exception of winning the lottery, not much! So why not put your plans
in motion now?
The Newfoundland Regional Tournament of the Canadian Improv Games has featured some of the
region’s best theatrical talent. Previous player have gone on to perform on the biggest stages in Canada
and at the largest Fringe Festival in the world in Edinburgh, Scotland! The Improv Games were always
the most memorable times of our high school years.
This year’s games will take place in February in St. John’s with exhibition play on November 23rd. Not
sure what you’re getting yourself into? That’s OK! We’re here to help you enter the world of
improvised theatre through workshops with our experienced team of trainers, the national training
material, and one-on-one discussions. Talk to any teacher or coach that has brought a team in the past,
and they will tell you how beneficial it was for them, and their team.
You can check out our website at www.improv.ca/improvnl . We’re also on Twitter (@ImprovNL),
and you can e-mail us at [email protected] with any questions, concerns, quandaries,
dilemmas, or compliments! We are also, starting a new Coaches’ Lounge on Facebook for coaches to
interact and share problems and successes they are having with their teams.
The registration form is online and can be found at www.improv.ca/improvnl. Please note the earlybird registration deadline is October 19. You can still register before the final deadline of 13
November. Registration fees are $175/team before the early bird deadline and $200 after 20 October.
After November 7 there will be a $25 late fee (total of $225) and you run the risk of your team not
being able to compete in the X-Games (If sending fees by mail, make sure the cheque is dated for the
deadline).
Still not sure? Drop us a line and we can chat about the Games; you can even come watch at no cost!
So what are you waiting for? Join the hundreds of students that have experienced the best time of their
lives – Improv is Life; Life is Improv!
All the best!
