Walter and Eliza Hall
Institute (WEHI)
MELBOURNE | MARCH 2012
ARCHITECT: Denton Corker Marshall and SKM-S2F
BUILDER: Baulderstone Pty Ltd
EST. PROJECT VALUE: $130 Million
BRITEX PROJECT MANAGER: Mr. Tony Clynes
BRITEX PROJECT ROLE
Britex was engaged by the building contractor to manufacture
and install all specially fabricated stainless steel fixtures with
the PC2 and PC3 labs for the WEHI redevelopment. This process
included generating shop drawings, consultation in fixture
design, project managing and coordinating the production
of fixtures within the program of the building contractor and
installing the fixtures on site. Stainless steel works and fixtures
for the project included:
•Specially designed laboratory work surfaces (benches and
sinks) that incorporated a raised ‘Tap Deck’ that allowed
tapware to sit elevated above the working surface. This
raised tap landing that was pressed into the stainless steel
surface - thus providing a seamless height transition – ensures
greater infection control which is paramount in this area of
the facility.
•Specially designed window frames manufactured entirely
from stainless steel incorporating radius edges for improved
hygiene, durability and safety.
(L-R) Britex custom benching with custom window frame, Britex Free Standing Lab Sink, Britex ‘TapDeck’, Britex Work Station Laboratory Bench on joinery.
