FACTS ABOUT DENTAL INSURANCE
Dental insurance is playing a larger role in helping people obtain dental treatment. Since we
strongly feel our patients deserve the best possible orthodontic care, and in an effort to maintain
this high quality care we would like to share some facts about orthodontic coverage within your
dental plan.
FACT #1 DENTAL INSURANCE IS NOT MEANT TO BE PAY-ALL. IT IS ONLY
MEANT TO BE AN AID.
FACT #2 MANY PLANS TELL THE INSURED THAT THEY ARE COVERED UP TO
50% OR 80% FOR BRACES. In spite of what you are told, we have found that all insurance
plans cover what is referred to as an ORTHODONTIC MAXIMUM. Some plans pay more,
some pay less, and this amount is determined by how much your employer has paid for the plan.
The average amount for the ORTHODONTIC MAXIMUM IS USUALLY FROM $1,000.00
TO $1,500.00.
FACT#3 Insurance companies determine this orthodontic maximum according to your policy
limitations. 24 MONTHS OF COVERAGE IS THE STANDARD IN THE INDUSTRY.
Treatment often times will extend beyond this period of time.
FACT#4 ALL AUXILIARY (ADDITIONAL) APPLIANCES ARE THE SOLE
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PATIENT, AND ARE NOT COVERED BY YOUR
INSURANCE.
Please do not hesitate in asking us questions about our office policies. We want you to be
comfortable in dealing with these matters, and urge you to ask if you have any questions or
concerns regarding our services and/or fees. We will inquire and file insurance forms at no
charge, yet it is the patient’s sole responsibility to file all required paperwork and make sure all
forms are kept current. This office should be notified of ANY INSURANCES CHANGES IN
YOUR CURRENT COVERAGE.
