Chapter 7
Factor - numbers that are multiplied together to get a product
Product - the answer to a multiplication problem.
compatible number - numbers that are easy to compute mentally
rounding - replacing a number with a number that is close to the original
number and ends in zeros
Chapter 8
Also know the divisibility rules
factor - two numbers that you multiply together to get a product
divisor a number that divides into another number
36 ÷ 6
6 is the divisor
dividend the number that is divided by another number
in the number above 36 is the dividend
quotient - the answer to a division problem
remainder the amount left over if it cannot be divided evenly
multiplication and division are opposite operations
example 8 x 4 = 32 and 32 ÷ 8 = 4
Prime numbers - numbers that only have 1 and itself as factors. 2 is the first
prime number. (ex 7 is prime 1 x 7 are the only factors of 7)
Composite numbers - numbers that have 2 or more factors.
(example 15 has 1 x 15 and 3 x 5 )
