FOOD CHOCIES
COTC, there are a variety of
food choices in the cafeteria.
Among these choices are more
fatty foods that are lower
priced than the healthier
choices. In the cafeteria, you
can usually get a whole meal
including a soft drink for a
little over five dollars, which is
a reasonable price but not as
healthy.
Checking out the healthier
choices such as the salad bar,
the fresh cold sandwiches,
yogurt and fruit immediately
you can quickly spend more
than you want on one meal.
WHY DOES HEALTHY FOOD COST MORE?
 Higher energy -dense
munchies cost on average
$1 .76 per 1 ,000 calories,
compared to
 $18.16 per 1 ,000 calories
for lower-energy based but
nutritious foods
 Higher priced energy -dense
munchies cost has an
almost 90 percent lower
cost per 1 ,000 calories
compared to the lower
energy more nutritious foods
WHAT YOU SHOULD BE EATING
Ideally, people should be choosing from the vegetables,
fruit and grain food groups but some extra choices can be
made from milk, yogurt, cheese and/or alternatives, the
lean meat and poultry, fish, eggs and/or alternative group,
and including less often, unsaturated fats, oils, and
spreads
BENEFITS TO EATING HEALTHY
Healthy eating helps
prevent high cholesterol
and high blood pressure.
Also eating healthier helps
reduce the risk of
developing chronic
diseases such as
cardiovascular disease,
cancer, and diabetes.
Lastly eating healthy also
helps reduce your risk for
developing obesity and
cavities, so essentially
eating an apple a day
really does keep the doctor
away.
