INTRODUCTION

A question tag is a short
question at the end of a
sentence.

We add it to a sentence to
transform it into a question.

USE
We use question tags to:

check if the information in the
statement is true and our
tone of voice rises;
Ex.: You haven’t met Charlie,
have you?


tone of voice falls.
Ex.: You won’t tell anyone,
will you?

Affirmative statement – negative
tag:

Students attend state schools,
don’t they?
Negative statement – positive
tag:


With auxiliary verbs – we use it
in the tag:

You have been to summer

Without auxiliary verbs – we use
the appropriate form of do in the

With modal verbs – we use the
same modal verb in the tag:

