Several positions in
Biostatistics/bioinformatics
in cancer genomics
The Oslo Research Centre for Biostatistical Modeling in the
Medical Sciences (BMMS), built on research groups at the
Departments of Genetics of the RikshospitaletRadiumhospitalet Medical Center, and Biostatistics, Statistics
and Informatics of the University of Oslo are jointly seeking
candidates for several positions in biostatistics and
bioinformatics to strengthen their collaborative research.
Cancer genomes are dynamic and tumors are complex organ
systems, shaped by gene aberrations, cellular biological
context, individual characteristics, and environmental
influences. The biological dynamics of cancer, the interaction
with host factors and environmental factors, need still to be
understood at a more fundamental level. In our research we
seek deep understanding of the biological dynamics of cancer
by integrating data from multiple levels of molecular screening
to identify critical, rate-limiting targets for intervention, to
explore functions of thousands of genes and proteins to
ascertain their value as risk factors, predictive factors for
therapy response and as therapeutic targets. Advanced
statistical and bioinformatic tools are fundamental for such
analysis.
1 researcher (three years appointment): Responsibilities
associated with this position include methodological and
collaborative research, training and supervision of graduate
students. Applicants should have doctoral degree in
biostatistics, statistics, computer science, mathematics or
equivalent. Specific experience in at least one of the areas of
statistical genomics, bioinformatics-computational biology and
cancer genomics is necessary. We prefer a person with a record
of both methodological and substantive collaborative research.
She/he is expected to play a central role in the centre. No
teaching duties at basic level. Salary according to
qualifications and experience, between 54 000 and 63 000
Euro annually.
1-2 Postdoctoral fellowships (up to three years): Applicants
for these positions should have doctoral degree in biostatistics,
statistics, computer science, mathematics or equivalent. It is
acceptable if the degree will be formally obtained within 3
months from the deadline of the present call. Specific
experience in the areas of statistical genomics,
bioinformatics/computational biology and cancer genomics is
a plus, but candidates with an outstanding potential and
genuine interest to conduct methodological and substantive
collaborative research in these areas will be equally
considered. Fellows will engage in methodological and
collaborative research in cancer, biostatistics, genomics and
genetics. Salary 48 000 Euro annually.
1-2 PhD Fellowships (three/four year appointments):
Applicants for these positions should have a master of science
degree (or equivalent) in biostatistics, statistics, computer
science, mathematics or equivalent. It is acceptable if the
degree will be obtained within a month from the deadline.
Some experience in the areas of biostatistics, statistical
genomics, bioinformatics, computational biology and genomic
research is a plus, but candidates with potential and interest to
conduct methodological and substantive collaborative research
in these areas are strongly encouraged to apply. Salary 38 000
Euro annually.
General: The successful candidates will join a very active
interdisciplinary group in Oslo conducting research in
computational and statistical methods directly relevant to
cancer. Active areas of research include the study of methods
to detect genetic and genomic changes that contribute to
initiation and progression of breast and ovarian cancer (among
others) or are associated with response to therapy. The posts
will give ambitious researchers an outstanding opportunity to
develop their scientific careers and extend their interests.
Women are strongly encouraged to apply.
For all positions, please send a letter of application, indicating
which position you apply for, and include a statement of
current and future research interests, a curriculum vitae with
full list of publications, and the names of at least two
references to be contacted by us, to the following address:
