ENERGY EFFICIENT OUTDOOR LIGHT MONITORING AND
CONTROL ARCHITECTURE USING EMBEDDED SYSTEM
Abstract:
Energy efficiency is one of the key factor while designing indoor or outdoor lighting
systems. The street lights consumes almost 30-40% of the entire city power consumption. Thus,
control system able to efficiently manage the lighting is absolutely advisable. For this aim, because
of its design based on the old lighting standards and inefficient instruments and devices, the
traditional lighting systems are not suitable resulting in energy losses, frequent replacement of
devices. Moreover these traditional systems suffer from the lack of pervasive and effective
communications, monitoring, automation, and fault diagnostics problems
The most important problems faced are the misusage of electricity and its wastage.
Sometimes due to carelessness of the authorities and the workers lamps are left ON which results
in wastage of electricity. Water wastage is another problem which needs to be dealt with. Our
project helps to overcome all these problems.
Firstly the Microcontroller around 6.00pm the lights are switched on depending upon the
output of the LDR and if no persons in the particular path ,then only few lights will be “powered
on “ and remaining in OFF condition in that path, this will be sensed by PIR sensor.
In morning Depending upon the value from the LDR, the street lights will be switched off.
Then we can also track, whether the power theft is been presented in the power line using Voltage
and Current Sensors, and this been informed as well to the control room via GSM.Microcontroller
is used to supervise the actions of all other devices and to control the entire set of operations.
Existing system:
1. Manual operation
2. Without wireless technology
Proposed system:

This project mainly aims at the automation of the public places to avoid wastage of
resources.

In Future By using GSM technology and Internet of Things (IOT) further control of lights
using mobile can be achieved
