Innovative Research. Outstanding Care.
UW Health urologists use state-of-the-art da Vinci ®
robotic-assisted technology to provide a less-invasive
approach to performing complex surgeries. The
da Vinci ® surgical system requires that every
surgical maneuver is performed with direct input
from the surgeon.
BLADDER CANCER
PROSTATE CANCER
NUTRITION AND UROLOGIC CANCER
Bladder cancer is highly treatable when detected early
and UW Health urologists offer the most comprehensive
care, diagnostics and treatment options for patients
with bladder cancer. These options include intravesical
therapy, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, as well as
cystectomy, partial cystectomy and robotic cystectomy
for bladder removal. We use the state-of-the-art
Cysview® Blue-Light system to detect bladder cancer.
UW Health urologists, medical oncologists and radiation
oncologists see more than 350 new prostate cancer
patients a year and offer patients innovative techniques
in prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Because the
UW Carbone Cancer Center is a world leader in prostate
cancer research, patients may benefit from clinical
trials that offer techniques or treatments that might
not be available at other centers. Treatments include
brachytherapy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and
open and robotic prostatectomy.
UW Health clinical nutritionists work in collaboration with
urologists and medical oncologists to provide nutrition
therapy as part of a patient’s treatment plan. Our program
is unique in that the urologists advocate nutrition therapy
for their patients. The clinical nutritionist provides dietary
assessments that help identify any dietary factors that can
help manage the prevention, progression and treatment of
different forms of urologic cancer. Nutritional therapy helps
patients maintain a healthy body weight, improve immunity,
prepare their body for surgery and lessen treatment
side effects. The approach is highly personalized to the
individual patient’s needs.
KIDNEY CANCER
The urologic cancer team at UW Health evaluates
hundreds of patients with early-stage cancers, in
addition to a large number of patients with advanced
tumors. The team discusses all of the therapy options
with patients and their families before making decisions,
so that each patient can achieve the best treatment
outcomes. Minimally invasive surgical options for fullor partial-kidney removal are used preferentially to
provide patients the best cancer outcomes and the
least impact on quality of life.
OTHER CANCERS
UW Health urologic oncologists have completed additional
training to treat urologic malignancies, including penile,
adrenal and testicular cancer. Our team of urologists,
pathologists, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists
offer a comprehensive treatment approach that may include
surgical options as well as chemotherapy and radiation.
Others services offered include fertility preservation.
