What did the government use music as?
Governments often used it as an effective means
for inspiring fervor, pride, patriotism, and action in
the citizens in order to gain manpower, homeland
support, and funds.
 Besides these incentives, composers
and publishers often wrote music to promote their
personal wartime sentiments.
 Some of the most obvious types of
musical propaganda are found in
patriotic songs, national anthems,
and military music.






World War two was said to have an enormous
effect on Jazz music which aided the
American war effort.
Jazz music provided an uplifting mood for the
American people at home during the war as
well as the soldiers fighting.

Louis Armstrong (1901-1971)
Named one of the greatest Musicians of
all time, Armstrong defined what it was to
play Jazz.


Duke Ellington (1899-1974)
Ellington was the greatest composer in the
history of Jazz. He was also an accomplished
band leader and pianist. The peak of his
career came in the early 1940's

The Hippie years!!!
 This was the era of the youth counter
culture, flower power, and the
Woodstock music festival. Rock music
replaced folk music as the center of
protest culture, and cultural protest
merged with political
demonstrations.
 Rock music took over along
with a lot of heavy metal.

