Croatia with over 90 years of successful pharmaceutical experience.
Our success and status is largely attributed to our in-house research and
development of finished dosage forms and active pharmaceutical ingredients,
our highly competent employees, innovative technologies and continuous
investments in production. As a result, the site in Zagreb is currently one of
the Teva Group’s leading R&D centers.
We are also one of Croatia’s major exporters, with over 80% of products
intended for export.

Teva is a global generic pharmaceuticals leader and one of the top fifteen pharmaceutical companies
in the world. We specialize in the development, manufacturing and marketing of a wide range of
generic and branded products, as well as Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs).
Teva is a global leader in generic medicines and has a track record of innovation in new medications
in bio-similars, women’s health, autoimmune diseases, respiratory, central nervous system and
transplantation.

There are 2 sites in Croatia: the headquarters, R&D center and a production
site are located in Zagreb, while production of API is located at the site in
Savski Marof.
Every year, we manufacture 5.5 billion tablets, 30 million injections and
10 million creams and ointments.

Our activities in Croatia
In Croatia, our operations comprise of the production
of finished dosage forms and active pharmaceutical
ingredients, commercial operations (marketing and
sales activities in Croatia and Southeast Europe) and
research and development of generics and active
pharmaceutical ingredients.
Production of finished products
Our Zagreb site specialises in the production of oral
solid forms, sterile forms, creams and ointments.
It mainly manufactures tablets, which are delivered
to some 40 different markets, primarily the USA,
Russia, Ukraine and Croatia. Projects for increasing
the current capacities of the oral solid forms facility
are underway, with the intention of further increasing
production volume. Thanks to the approvals by the
US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the British
Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory
Agency (MHRA), the Croatian Agency for Medicinal
Products and Medical Devices (HALMED) and other
relevant European agencies, we are compliant with
the highest global quality standards required for
international markets. Our Zagreb production site
plays a vital role for various Teva markets, and is one
of the key strategic production sites for the entire
TEVA Group.
Development & production of Active
Pharmaceutical Ingredients
The development of new APIs and the production
of previously registered APIs are carried out at two
sites: Zagreb and Savski Marof. Production complies
with strictly defined international standards, and is
regularly audited by a number of foreign regulatory
agencies and business partners. Currently, Teva
is investing USD 100 million in TAPI (Teva Active
Pharmaceutical Ingredients) Croatia’s new facility
which will increase current capacities and ensure the
highest environmental protection standards.
Research and Development
Our current status and achievements to date may
be largely attributed to in-house research and
development activities which have a 70-year long
tradition. Clearly defined research and project
management processes, a focus on niche areas, the
use of state-of-the art technologies and scientific
methods and systematic protection of intellectual
property rights are the basic components of our
research and development strategy that we conduct
in Croatia. Currently, this strategy is strongly focused
on the development of generic medicines, with
Zagreb acting as one of the most important research
centers within the Teva Group.
2012 – 2014 – USD 200 million investment cycle
The ongoing investment cycle is one of the biggest in the
company’s history amounting to about USD 200 million.
The projects in Savski Marof include the construction
of wastewater and process gas treatment facilities and
the expansion of multipurpose synthesis facilities. The
investments into environmental protection rely on Best
Available Techniques in line with the IPPC Directive and
best practice in the European Union.
At the same time, the new facility for the production of
finished dosage forms in Zagreb will soon start to operate.
This will additionally increase the current capacities,
already now mostly dedicated to exports to international
markets, with the USA and Russia as the major markets.
Our major export markets are the USA and Russia. We
are one of Croatia’s major exporters, with over 80% of
products intended for export.
Getting our medicines to the patients who need them
Teva’s production portfolio includes a large number of
finished dosage forms covering almost all therapeutic
groups, a broad OTC portfolio and active pharmaceutical
ingredients. Our strong Rx product portfolio covers all
major therapeutic groups: cardiovascular, gastrointestinal,
anti-infectives, oncology, musculoskeletal, neurological,
respiratory, psychiatric diseases as well as products for
diabetes and pain. Registration of several new products
is currently planned.

The portal offers detailed information about diseases, symptoms, diet, exercises and other everyday topics.
Among other things, the interactive portal contains the following sections: Virtual Atlas, Disease Manual, Medical
Lexicon, Nutrition by Disease, Allergy Traffic Light for several Croatian towns, Ovulation Calendar and Asthma
Centre. To make the portal even more accessible to patients and the community, we have introduced free
smartphone applications.
PLIVA also publishes specialized brochures for patients and their families, dedicated to specific areas and
covering diseases and conditions such as Diabetes, Allergies, Cardiovascular and much more.

with special needs. These funds are mostly intended for
projects related to education, prevention of diseases and
healthcare. Additionally, we continuously collaborate
with Croatian universities, sponsor scholarship programs,
support various scientific symposia, and our experts
provide input on legal regulations in various fields.
Our traditional ‘Walking to Health’ campaign, held on
World Health Day, focuses on raising health awareness
and promoting the benefits of everyday walking.
Organized collection of expired medicines, carried out in
cooperation with public health institutes, raises public
awareness about medicinal products as waste requiring
proper disposal and increases patient compliance.
