Definition of clinical biochemistry
 Clinical biochemistry is defined as the study of
chemistry aspect of human life in health and illness
and the application of chemical laboratory methods to
diagnosis , control of the treatment and prevention of
disease.
Cells
1) The basic unit of the body.
2) The place where most of the body chemical reactions.
3) Has an outer membrane that separates it from other
cells and from the tissue fluids.
 Composition of the cell
A. Well-define nucleus (DNA),Mitochondria(oxidation
reactions and energy), Vacuoles, Ribosomes(protein
synthesis), Endoplasmic reticulum (many enzymes
are located on) and Chemical constituents (simple
and complex proteins, nucleoproteins,
carbohydrates, lipid, intermediates and inorganic
salts and water.
Malfunction of a cell may caused by:1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
Destruction by trauma or invasive agents (pathogenic
microorganism like viruses or toxins).
Insufficient supply of essential nutrients (amino acids,
vitamins and minerals).
Genetic deficiency of vital enzyme.
Insufficient blood supply.
Insufficient oxygen supply.
Malignancy (uncontrolled tissue growth).
Accumulation of waste products.
Failure of control system.
A defect in the cellular recognition of certain signals.
