Composer Biography Guidelines
A biography is the story of a person’s life.
Here are the guidelines that you will follow for this report:

Length- Your report must be 4 - 5 pages long. Include information about the
composer’s birthplace, family, education, musical influences, what age were they
when they started in music (as a child or as an adult?). How did they become famous?
Mention their most well known compositions and which era they lived and composed
in. (Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century) If you are working as a
team, each person will be responsible for 3 pages individually, plus at least 2 pages
that you collaborate on together.

Works Cited- This is a listing of your sources (where you get your information). You
must include all your sources in this document. You must use at least 1 book sources,
and at least 2 different Internet sources. Book sources must include:
Author/editor
title
page numbers
volume numbers (Encyclopedia/Grove’s Music Dictionary)
copyright date
typed on a separate page from the report.
You may access www.easybib.com for help

All reports MUST be typed and placed in a folder. You must use size 12 font, double
spaced. Please use Times New Roman or Calibri for your font.
Please add interesting photos and maps about your composer.
A poster must be created. Please make it beautiful and informative.
Musical Selections: please select one piece of music by your composer that really
shows off his/her musical style. If you cannot find any music at your homes, try the
public library, on-line sources or ask Mrs. Boosamra for assistance.




Oral Presentation: You must present a brief summary of your composer in front of
class. This presentation must be at least 5 minutes in length. You may use 3x5 cards
for notes while you are presenting. In the presentation, you must tell us some
interesting highlights of his/her life and play a recording of the musical selection you
chose. Oral Reports will begin Monday, March 2nd .

Points: This report is worth a total of 500 points (Without this report you will not be
able to receive an “A” in choir). 350 pts. for the amount of information in your report,
100pts for the oral presentation, including your musical selection, and 50 pts. for
grammar and organization of your report.

DUE DATE: Final paper is due Monday 3/2/2015. Extra Credit is available for
turning in your report before the due date. Oral Reports will begin Monday, Mar. 2nd
