SP S SPS ELECTRONICS INCORPORATED 8005 ISLAND ROAD | EDEN PRAIRIE, MN 55347 | PHONE: (952) 934-7004 | FAX: (952) 934-8882 DC/DC CONVERTER – 48 VDC PN 22132 & 30100 & 30300 INSTALLATION GUIDELINES Rev 2, March 1, 2005 COLOR CODES BLUE YELLOW WHITE RED BLACK B+, +48 VDC B-, -48 VDC CONTROL, ON = B+, OFF = OPEN +13.5 VDC - 13.5 VDC WIRE/PIN ASSIGNMENTS 3 LEAD CONNECTOR/HARNESS PIN A/BLUE B+, +48 PIN B/YELLOW B-, -48 PIN C/WHITE CONTROL, B+, +48 VDC 2 LEAD CONNECTOR/HARNESS PIN 2/RED +13.5 VDC PIN 1/BLACK -13.5 VDC INSTALLATION INSTALLATION SHOULD BE BY A QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN TRAINED IN THE SAFETY PROCEDURES OF WORKING WITH BATTERIES AND WITH B+ VOLTAGE LEVELS. TURN BATTERY DISCONNECT OFF, SO THAT BATTERY PACK IS ISOLATED FROM ALL VEHICLE WIRING. IF THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A BATTERY DISCONNECT SWITCH, THEN REMOVE THE B+ AND THE B- LEADS SUCH THAT THE BATTERY IS FULLY ISOLATED FROM THE VEHICLE. VERIFY WITH A VOLTMETER THAT THE BATTERY IS DISCONNECTED AND IT IS SAFE TO WORK ON THE WIRING. MOUNT THE CONVERTER TO THE VEHICLE USING THE BASE PLATE AS A TEMPLATE. MAKE AND INSTALL THE HARNESS THAT IS NEEDED TO REACH THE LOCATION OF THE DC/DC CONVERTER. A 15 AMP, FAST ACTING, 100 VDC FUSE SHOULD BE INSTALLED IN SERIES WITH THE B+ LEAD (BLUE). A 30 A, FAST ACTING, 32 VDC FUSE SHOULD BE INSTALLED IN THE +12 V LEAD (RED). VERIFY THE HARNESS IS CORRECT USING A DVOM. WIRING ERRORS IN INSTALLING THE CONVERTER WILL CAUSE IT TO FAIL AND WILL VOID ANY WARRANTY. RECONNECT THE BATTERY. ENABLE THE CONVERTER AND USING A VOLTMETER VERIFY THE OUTPUT VOLTAGE IS 13.5 + .5 VDC, PRIOR TO CONNECTING THE 12 VDC LOADS. OPTION – ALWAYS ON MODE THE CONVERTER MAY BE INSTALLED IN THE ALWAYS ON MODE BY HARD WIRING THE CONTROL LEAD TO B+. THE CONVERTER HAS A NO LOAD DRAW OF 185+20 MILLIAMPS IN THE ALWAYS ON (ENABLED) MODE, THE BATTERY PACK SHOULD BE FULLY CHARGED AT LEAST ONCE PER WEEK. THE BATTERY DISCONNECT SHOULD BE OPENED IF THE VEHICLE IS GOING TO BE STORED FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME WITHOUT PERIODIC CHARGING. RADIO APPLICATIONS THE RADIO CHASSIS SHOULD BE ISOLATED FROM THE VEHICLE CHASSIS. TO IMPROVE RECEPTION A GROUND WIRE SHOULD BE RUN FROM THE RADIO CHASSIS TO THE VEHICLE CHASSIS. THIS GROUND WIRE SHOULD INCLUDE AN ISOLATION CAPACITOR (1 uF POLYPROPYLENE OR POLYESTER OR METALIZED FILM). WHEN USED WITH A RADIO, THE ALWAYS ON MODE MAY BE USED TO MAINTAIN THE RADIO MEMORY.
