Medial view of the human right cerebral hemisphere showing projection of the retina on the primary visual cortex in the occipital cortex around the calcarine fissure. The geniculocalcarine fibers from the medial half of the lateral geniculate terminate on the superior lip of the calcarine fissure, and those from the lateral half terminate on the inferior lip. Also, the fibers from the lateral geniculate body that relay macular vision separate from those that relay peripheral vision and end more posteriorly on the lips of the calcarine fissure.
