Aetna Medicare Video Transcript
Generic drugs usually come to market many years after their brand-name drug
counterparts. Other than having longer, more scientific names, everything else is
comparable to a brand-name drug.
A generic drug is a copy of a brand-name drug that is no longer under patent protection.
A generic drug is the same as a brand-name drug in dosage, strength, how it is taken,
the quality and the intended use.
The primary difference between a generic drug and a brand-name drug is the cost.
Generic drugs usually cost less than the brand-name drugs because generic
manufacturers don’t have the initial drug research, development, and approval costs of
creating a brand new drug compound.
