Presented by:
TaylorSkye Goff-Gramando
What is a Ribosome?
• Ribosomes are the protein builders of the cell.
• Tiny organelles that are either freely moving or in small clusters
• They are found in all living cells
Where Are They Located
• Prokaryotes: Free forms in cytoplasm and protoplasm
• Eukaryotes: attached to the outer membrane of endoplasmic
reticulum for use outside of cell
Plant Cell
Animal Cell
Function
• Their function in a cell is in protein
synthesis where they pair each codon
of the messenger RNA strand with the
appropriate amino acid.
When They Do Not Work
You can suffer from
• Diamond- Blackfan Anemia
• Cartilage Hair Hypoplasia
• Shwachman- Diamond Syndrome
• Dyskeratosis Congenita
