Earth’s Interior Objective 5: Vocabulary
Crust: The outermost, rocky layer of the Earth. The crust forms the Earth’s surface.
Lithosphere: A rigid, layer that contains the plates and is made up of the crust and upper mantle.
Continental Crust: The part of the outermost layer upon which the continents reside. The continental crust is
where land is.
Oceanic Crust: The part of the outermost layer that is below the ocean. The oceanic crust is the ocean floor.
