Adverse Drug Event (ADE) – Opioid Usage Measure Definition Sheet Data Definition – Percent of Patients Receiving Naloxone after Opioid Administration Numerator: Number of patients (cared for in an inpatient area) who received naloxone < 24 hours after any opioid administration related to over sedation. Denominator: Number of patients (cared for in an inpatient area) receiving opioids. Data Submission: 1. Input data into the WSHA Quality Benchmarking System (QBS) at the following link. Current users may log in with their QBS credentials. If you need access to QBS, contact Decision Support at [email protected]. 2. Baseline data: January 2012 – December 2012 3. Ongoing: Monthly data to be submitted to QBS by 45 days after the end of the prior month. Inclusion Criteria Patients who are admitted to hospital bed, regardless of status (e.g. include observation, rehab and swing bed patients). Exclusion Criteria 1. Exclude naloxone given in post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) and procedural areas (e.g. endoscopy, radiology and cath lab). 2. Exclude naloxone given via IV infusion. 3. Exclude all naloxone doses given in ED. 4. Exclude naloxone doses given within 24 hours of admission for a diagnosis of suicide attempt, opiate abuse, dependence, poisoning, or overdose.
