UA Web Banner Policy
September 2007
It is important for each part of The University of Arizona to help build our reputation as
the leading public university in the American Southwest. Through thousands of Web
pages, collectively we are creating important impressions about this University. It is
critical, therefore, that our Web pages present a consistent and strong image.
Soon all UA websites will be required to use an approved UA banner at the top of each
page to clearly identify that it is part of the University. What follows are specific policies
and timelines for each area of the University. Please note that these policies are in
addition to the existing Required Website Standards (link to page.)
Level One Websites
Websites for colleges and schools, non-academic departments and service units that are
focused on external audiences. This includes but is not limited to: Administration,
Enrollment Management, Human Resources, Student Union and all UA museums. For a
complete list of Level One Web sites: (link.) For colleges, the banner should be used on
all pages that are part of the overall college domain. (Departments, centers and programs
also will be required to use the banners but will have more time to make the transition.)
Timeline: Level One Websites have three months to add one of the approved UA Web
banners to their site. (We will include an actual deadline before we roll this out.)
Level Two Websites
Websites for all academic departments, ABOR-designated research institutes, centers,
bureaus and service and administrative units. Also included are UA committees,
organizations and official student organizations. (Add link to Research Centers and All
Departments & Colleges index)
Timeline: Level Two Websites have six months to add one of the approved UA Web
banners to their site.
Level Three Websites
Websites which include course specific information such as curriculum, syllabi, faculty
(including adjunct faculty and graduate teaching assistants) bios and CVs, personal home
pages, UA sponsored conferences, symposia and exhibition websites. All web sites that
are hosted on university web servers.
Timeline: Level Three Websites have nine months to add one of the approved UA Web
banners to their site.
Exceptions
The following will not be required to use the UA Web banners:
The University of Arizona home page
Web-based applications and intranet sites – (examples: Webmail, Student Link,
Employee Link, ArizonaMed )
Personal home pages
Student clubs that are not officially recognized student organizations
If existing partnerships or collaborations with other universities or outside organizations
could be compromised or diminished by UA branding, or if this policy conflicts with
existing branding policies, please contact Leslie Johnston, in the Office of External
Relations to discuss options. (520) 626.2539
