Low Fiber Diet to High Fiber Diet For some health problems, such as diverticulitis, you may be advised to adopt a low fiber diet. A low fiber intake is usually intended for a short duration only. You should progress to a high fiber diet within a few days or weeks. Slowly increasing your intake of fiber will help your digestive tract adjust to the change. This gradual addition of high fiber food to the diet is particularly important. Rapid increases could lead to bloating and gaseous discomfort.
