Blue Ridge Region
The Blue Ridge Region has many mountains. The Sassafras Mountain is the highest
point in the Blue Ridge. It also has waterfalls and hardwood forests. The Indians that lived in this
area are the Cherokee Indians. This region is the smallest region in South Carolina.
The Piedmont Region
The Piedmont region has many things such as foothills, mountains, rolling hills and
valleys. It also was a farming area in the past. Now the soil is like red clay. There are
many waterfalls and swift flowing rivers. These rivers gave power in the past.
Sand Hills Region
The Sand Hills region has sandy soil and many rapids. It also has flat lands and it is
not good for growing crops.
It is also the midlands and home of Columbia - our state capital.
The Inner Coastal Plain Region
The Inner Coastal Plain Region has dry soil and large stands of trees. This region has a
very long growing season and it is good for farming. This land is very flat. It is also a
place where you would drive if you were going to the beach.
Outer Coastal Plain Region
The Outer Coastal Plain is 30 to 50 miles wide. It has very dry soil. Some places in
in the Outer Coastal Plain Region are Orangeburg , Florence, and the Congaree
National Park.
Coastal Zone Region
The Coastal Zone Region beaches are a big tourist area. Many people go to
Charleston which is a place in The Coastal Zone. There are natural harbors ,
marshes, and swamps.
