Methane measurement workshop , Aberystwyth University, Institute of Biological, Environmental & Rural Sciences (IBERS), UK from 10 - 11 May 2016: By Dr. Koech Oscar Methane measurement workshop, Aberystwyth University, Institute of Biological, Environmental & Rural Sciences (IBERS), UK from 10 - 11 May 2016 Dr. Koech Oscar, of the University of Nairobi, Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) and pasture researcher at African Dryland Institute for Sustainability (ADIS-UoN) is currently doing research on Methane measurements from Livestock and feeds evaluation techniques at Aberystwyth University, Institute of Biological, and Environmental & Rural Sciences (IBERS), UK from 15 March to15 June 2016 supported by the Stapledon Memorial Trust fund travel research grant and Newton fund. The Newton Fund supported a workshop on different methods of methane measurements held on –10 to 11 May 2016. This was attended by post graduate research students from the University of Nairobi and scientist from Africa at Aberystwyth University, Aberystwyth, UK. The workshop provided exposure of the team to various methane measurement techniques as well sharing of results on In vitro and In vivo methane measurement studies done by Dr. Oscar Koech. The workshop was a success and this supports the interests of UoN and African Dryland Institute for Sustainability (ADIS) in the upcoming forage for Africa programme to improve forage productivity in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) with care for environmental conservation, especially reducing enteric methane emissions. The opportunities for the University of Nairobi, CAVS and ADIS in the upcoming programme will be in the contribution to the forage for Africa agenda through capacity building for research scientists, carry out action research on livestock and pastures to address the new challenges of Climate Change impacts in the sector as well as mitigation measures to climate change, mainly reducing GHS. The University of Nairobi will also benefit from the wide experience and technology at the Methane measurement workshop , Aberystwyth University, Institute of Biological, Environmental & Rural Sciences (IBERS), UK from 10 - 11 May 2016: By Dr. Koech Oscar Institute of Biological, Environmental & Rural Sciences (IBERS), and Aberystwyth University with hope for funding that may also contribute to capacity building, infrastructural and laboratory equipments for scientific research.
