Coordinate Treasure Hunt – Group A
There are 10 letters out there, with your team’s name on them. Solve the clues to find them in
order. Once you have them, use a Caesar Code to decipher a 10 letter word. A Caesar Code
shifts each letter by a given key. E.g. if the key is 3, A becomes D, B become E, C becomes F etc.
You can use the letters on the side of this sheet to experiment with. Use the attached strips of
letters to experiment with. Slide them up or down until you have a code that works.

Check the clue belongs to your team BEFORE you pick it up.
Only take the top clue, leave the rest for other teams.
Never take the last clue in a stack. Copy the information to a piece of paper.
No checking every clue to find yours – calculate the location then go to it.
Stay together.
Respect other teams and their clues.
To find your first letter, solve this clue.
A is (5, -6)
B is (2, 1)
C is (-2, -9)
A, B, C and P are vertices on a square.
What is the location of
P (x, y)?
Letter
Deciphered
When you have all 10 letters, decipher using the Caesar code and ask your mentor for m&ms.
If you still have time, you can find the next team’s clues – for mini m&ms.

Team A’s first clue.
Location of this clue (-5, -2). Team A your first letter is N.
A is (5, -6)
A is (5, 2)
B is (2, 1)
B is (5, -5)
C is (-2, -9)
ABCP is a
rectangle.
A, B, C and P
are vertices
on a square.
What is the
location of
P (x,y)?
BC is
parallel to
AP.
AB is
parallel to
CP.
The x-value
of C is less
than 5. The
perimeter is
16m. All
vertices fit
on our grid.
What is the
location of
P (x,y)?
Location of this clue (4, 2). Team A your next letter is I.
Location of this clue (-4, 7). Team A your next letter is K.
Draw a line
from
(-7,-2) to
(-3,10)
Draw a line
from
(-6,8) to
(4,3)
Where do
they
intersect?
(x, y)
A is
(-6.5, -1)
B is
(-4, 9)
C is
(4, 7)
ABCP is a
rectangle.
What is the
location of
P (x, y)?
Location of this clue (1.5, -3). Team A your next letter is B.
Location of this clue (0, -1). Team A your next letter is W.
A is (2, 8)
A is (1, 8)
B is (4, 8)
B is (-4, 8)
C is (6, 3)
Triangle
ABP is a
right angled
triangle
with a
perimeter
of 30m.
BP is the
hypotenuse
(longest
side).
D is (-5, -5)
E is (-5, -3)
Triangle
ABC is
congruent
to triangle
DEP. The
order of
letters is
important
(side AB is
congruent
to DE, BC is
congruent
to EP. Angle
ABC = angle
DEP etc.)
The triangle
is not
reflected.
What is the
location of P (x,y)?
P lies on our
grid at (x,y)
and x and y
are whole
numbers.
What is the
location of
P (x,y)?
Location of this clue (1, -4). Team A your next letter is Z.
Location of this clue (2, -8). Team A your next letter is Q.
A is (-7, 4)
B is (-3, 7)
C is (6, -5)
ABCP is a
rectangle.
BC is
parallel to
AP.
All vertices
fit on our
grid.
What is the
location of
P (x,y)?
P is exactly
halfway
between
(1, 9) and
(-6, -5)
What is the
location of
P (x,y)?
Location of this clue (-2.5, 2). Team A your next letter is A.
Location of this clue (-1, -2). Team A your next letter is M.
A is (-6, 10)
A is (-6, 9)
B is (4, 10)
B is (2, -9)
P is the
same
distance
from A as it
is from B.
P lies on the
line
between A
and B.
P is 3 times
as far from
B as it is
from A.
C is (-4, 2)
D is (3, -5)
P is also the
same
distance
from C as it
is from D.
What is the
location of
P (x,y)?
What is the
location of
P (x,y)?
Location of this clue (-4, 4.5). Team A your FINAL letter is L.
You should now have 10 letters. Decipher them with a Caesar Code to find a
10 letter word.
