JScreen offers two testing panels and two method options:
Test Panels:
Ashkenazi Jewish Panel
Expanded Panel
The Ashkenazi Jewish Panel includes only
the 19+ genetic conditions found more
commonly in the Ashkenazi Jewish
population. The Ashkenazi Jewish panel has
the highest carrier detection rate in this
population. Therefore, JScreen
recommends that only people with two or
more grandparents who were Ashkenazi
Jewish order this panel.
The Expanded Panel includes 80+ genetic
conditions. The 19+ genetic conditions
found more commonly in the Ashkenazi
Jewish population are included in the
Expanded Panel. The Expanded Panel can
be chosen by any JScreen participant,
including participants with Ashkenazi Jewish
ancestry.
Test Methods:
Genotyping
Sequencing**
How it Works
Detailed scan of the whole length
"Spot check" for common changes of a gene. Sequencing will detect
(mutations) in a gene.

**For four genes, genotyping is done instead of sequencing due to differences in the genes’ structures.
These genes are associated with Hurler and Fragile X syndromes, Gaucher disease, and Spinal Muscular
Atrophy. If you chose the Ashkenazi Jewish panel, Hurler syndrome is not included.
