Instructions for Somatic Cell Life Cycle Diagrams and Notes
1. Identify all the phases of an animal somatic cell’s life cycle on the lines
provided.
2. Draw a diagram of a cell that represents how an animal somatic cell would
appear in each phase. Use textbook and the internet resources to find examples. You
will draw 6 different cells.
3. Label each diagram with the terms listed below for each specific phase:
*Anaphase = Show and label the cell membrane, chromosomes, centrioles, and spindles.
*Cytokinesis = Show and label the cell membrane, nuclei, chromatin, and centrioles in each cell.
* Interphase = Show and label the cell membrane, nucleus, chromatin, nucleolus, and centrioles
* Metaphase = Show and label the cell membrane, chromosomes, centrioles, and spindles
* Prophase = Show and label the cell membrane, chromosomes, centrioles, and spindles
*Telophase = Show and label cell membrane, nuclear membranes, chromatin, and centrioles.
(The stages listed above are NOT in the order that they occur
in a somatic cell’s life cycle!)
4. On the back of the diagram paper, identify the name of each phase and write a
description of what happens in the cell during each stage of its life cycle.
