Hemlock Trees
By: Eli PARKER
WHAT ARE HEMLOCKS?
Hemlock trees are well… trees. They are very
important. And if they will come abate… it cant be
good.
WHY ARE
HEMLOCKS SO
IMPORTANT?
Hemlocks are a keystone species. What that is it’s a very important species that nature couldn’t live without it.
β€’
Many species of neo-tropical migratory songbirds nest and feed in hemlock
trees, so a loss of hemlock would leave these birds vulnerable.
Also, hemlock grow along creeks and rivers and the shade cast by their evergreen
foliage serves to regulate water temperature and this in turn affects many aquatic
β€’
species like fish and insects that are adapted to this water temperature. Most fish that live in
mountain streams and rivers require cold, clear water to thrive. .

HAPPEN IF THE
HEMLOCKS ARE
DEAD?
What does every tree need? Roots. Hemlock trees grow on banks. If there is no
hemlock trees holding in the soil along the side of a stream or river, sediment will fall in
the river killing fish. Sediment is soil or dirt that has fallen into a river. The sediment
muddies the water and creates reduces the oxygen in the water. It keeps the water co
because it provides shade since they are tall. I also think they are exquisite
and sublime. We should venerate them.
SO,WHATS
KILLING THE
TREES?
The Woolly adelgid
is killing the trees by sucking all the sugar out
infecting the trees. What? Did you ask what the adelgid was?
Well, the adelgid is a bug and it feeds on hemlocks.

HAVE HUMANS
DONE TO THE
TREES TO HELP?
So far one solution that has been tried so far has done
is put CT beetles in the forest. They feed on wooly
adelgid. We brought the CT beetle to America
(mentioned in solutions)
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
Some possible solutions are:
Produce CT beetles , produce dioxide into the trees or
lure the adelgid away from the trees.
