Deciding which Data Analysis Mode to Configure MS ChemStation The G1701AA MS ChemStation, Rev. A.03.00 and later, includes four distinct Data Analysis packages, called Data Analysis Modes. (Later versions contain additional modes.) When an instrument is configured, one of these modes must be chosen for that instrument. Below is a brief description of the four modes to aid in selecting which is correct for your application. 1. Enhanced mode. Enhanced mode Data Analysis is the most commonly used mode. This mode provides the functionality of the previous ChemStation data analysis package and a number special-purpose tools that expand your data processing / reporting options. It also contains various productivity tools such as QEdit, DOSCAN, DOLIST, and EasyID. If you are not doing regulated environmental analysis, or reformulated gasoline analysis, and you are not already comfortable with the older Data Analysis package of the previous ChemStations, this is the mode you should select. Enhanced is the only mode supporting “mixed mode” data (GC and MS data acquired simultaneously and stored and analyzed together. 2. Environmental Mode. Environmental mode Data Analysis, as the name suggests, is intended for users in the regulated environmental market. This mode includes tools and reports specific to the analysis of environmental samples. If you are doing environmental testing and reporting, this is the mode you should select. Environmental mode is very similar to the EnviroQuant package on previous versions of the MS ChemStation. This document is believed to be accurate and up-to-date. This gasoline analysis software provides the specialized data handling required by the ASTM method for determination of benzene, toluene, and total aromatics in finished gasolines by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (ASTM D5769). Those of you doing this know who you are. 4. Standard Mode. (G1701AA and G1710BA only)Standard mode is the comfortable Data Analysis environment that has been used on the DOS MS ChemStation for some time. If you are a previous user of the G1034A/B/C products (or the earlier versions of G1701AA), and are comfortable with that data analysis program, this mode will allow you to use this ChemStation without confronting the new features, capabilities, and menu organization of the Enhanced mode. Familiar with the old ChemStation and don’t want to change? This one’s for you. 5. Drug analysis mode. Provides specialized reporting formats for the drug testing laboratory. Intelligent sequencing is implemented in G1701CA C.00.01 and later versions. If there’s still a question in your mind about which mode to choose, pick Enhanced and proceed. You can always reconfigure the instrument and change modes later if you want or need to. G1701AA G1701BA G1701CA G1701DA a05180.doc http:// http:// www.chem.agilent.com Page 2 of 2
