GRADING SCALE Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve Each field trip will be graded according to the following scale. The results will be averaged. All assigned components included no 0 Quality of presentation needs work 0 Additional components none 0 partial 4 good 1 good 1 yes 6 superior 2 superior 2 Habitat types observed: chaparral, coastal sage scrub and riparian forest Notes: The Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve contains a portion of the Santa Margarita River, the last free-flowing river in southern California. For example, a field trip section might be graded as follows: all assigned components included, presentation needs work => 6 points all assigned components included, presentation satisfactory => 7 points additional comments of fair quality included => 8 points The Santa Margarita River Some problems the area faces include invasion by exotic species – particularly Arundo donax, which grows along rivers and takes up a lot of water.
