1. What do you know about Machine Learning?
Solution:
Machine learning is a type of artificial intelligence (AI) that provides computers with the
ability to learn without being explicitly programmed. Machine learning focuses on the
development of computer programs that can teach themselves to grow and change when
exposed to new data.
The process of machine learning is like that of datamining. Both systems search through
data to look for patterns. However, instead of extracting data for human comprehension as
is the case in data mining applications; machine learning uses that data to detect patterns
in data and adjust program actions accordingly. Machine learning algorithms are often
categorized as being supervised or unsupervised. Supervised algorithms can apply what
has been learned in the past to new data. Unsupervised algorithms can draw inferences
from datasets.
2. Why are you interested in this Machine Learning project?
Solution:
Until now, I have worked with voluminous data and analyzed the datasets for bringing out
the insights on the nature of the business. I have predicted the growth in business in terms
of income expected to be earned from Banks Lending to Public. I have developed lot of
reports required by Reserve Bank of India (Banking Regulator of India).
But till date, I have not worked with Machine Learning Project. After learning about
Machine Learning, I am excited to work on any module by extracting the information and
designing a model to make a machine to perform on its own.
I am very fortunate to come across Practice Center Project which exactly fills my thirst of
learning and implementing Machine Learning Project.
3. How can you contribute to the success of this Machine Learning project?
Solution:
In my first semester, I have completed Statistical Data Mining Course. During this course,
I have learnt some of the Data Mining Concepts. In my upcoming semester, I have enrolled
for Data Mining Subject which gives me the complete idea on the concepts. I am currently
doing my certification on Machine Learning from Coursera. With this knowledge, which I
am gaining, I am confident that I would contribute substantially to the success of the
project.
In my previous organizations, as well I am always the person to know what exactly I do
before the execution of project. This quality has always given comfortable stand for me
and in addition to that I used to execute the project well within the deadlines stipulated by
the Top Management.
4. Can you give an example of your troubleshooting and multi-tasking skills?
Solution:
Coming to my troubleshooting and multi-tasking skills, I am holding good number of
instances in my previous assignment wherein I had been associated with Syndicate Bank
as Manager.
After the assignment of Automated Data Flow Project, I am given the responsibility of
automating163 odd reports. All these reports were prepared by the Bank manually by
collecting the data from all the Branches of the Bank. Since Syndicate Bank is almost 90
years old organization which has evidenced drastic Technology migrations and holding
variety of Data Sources containing the details of Customers data widely spread.
Automating the reports is a very huge task. Each report on an average consists of 150 to
180 data elements. For deriving the logic of each element, I need to look in to different
Data Sources for arriving the value. During implementation of the project, I have
concentrated on the junk values that are still sustaining in the production databases. I have
listed out all the attributes which are affecting the reports developed. I have presented this
issue in front of the top management and got the approval for commencing data cleansing
project. I would say that this activity is purely my own initiative and I have been instructed
to take care of project in terms of deadlines. I have taken this as my challenge and
committed for cleansing of nearly 40 million customer’s data and succeeded without
hindrance to the project deadlines. This incident proves my multi-tasking abilities in the
organization. Due to cleansed data, the developed reports were turned out to be the
successful reports.
5. What was the last project you worked on and what was its outcome?
Solution:
I worked on three projects simultaneously and those are Automated Data Flow(ADF), Data
Cleansing and Development of Bank as a whole advances report. In the process of
implementing these projects, I am very proud to announce that I have taken a lead to clean
the data in the production and proved to the different departments that the reports that were
developed against the production data sources will give meaningful statistics.
The Data Cleansing Project is a pure initiative taken by me.
Due to the improved quality of data, Data Warehouse project could generate meaningful
trends which helped the Bank to make decision making very simple.
6. Give us an example of a circumstance when you had to think out of the box?
Solution:
In my previous assignment, after successfully implementing Automated Data Flow and
Bank as a whole advances report; I was assigned a task to generate the projected income
generated out of advances lent by Bank. Since the data quality is very poor, Data
Warehouse project was unable to deliver this requirement.
Due to my active involvement in solving any business issue, our top management decided
to place this requirement on my shoulders. Without any hesitation, I have accepted this
challenge. I am completely unaware on how to proceed with this requirement.
Later by discussing the required components with almost 6 different teams in Department
of Information Technology in Bank, I was able to derive the logics necessary for generating
the income from the available data sources.
With no exaggeration, I was able to complete the assignment in one weeks of time and
received appreciations from Top Management.
