The Princess Margaret Lymphedema Clinic For patients who are at risk for or have lymphedema due to cancer treatment What is Lymphedema? Lymphedema is swelling caused by a buildup of lymph fluid in your body as a result of cancer treatment that involves the removal of lymph nodes and/or radiation to the lymph nodes. Lymphedema assessment and follow up For patients who have been diagnosed with upper body lymphedema or lower body lymphedema (Gynecologic patients only) as a result of their cancer treatment. You will learn how to care for yourself while maintaining your lifestyle, and how to do lymphatic self-massages and bandaging. You can get prescriptions for compression garments or stockings. If needed, you may also be referred to other rehabilitation services. • Doctor’s referral is needed with established diagnosis of lymphedema secondary to cancer treatment. Please ask your oncologist (doctor that specializes in cancer).
