The very scale of the production makes it one of the most spectacular seen on the London stage, with over 180 people involved in delivering each performance. This includes actors, stage crew, musicians, dressers, hairstylists, make-up artists, ushers, bar and box office staff. Not forgetting the traditional stagedoor keeper. The costume design team trawled the world to bring ALADDIN’s fashions to the stage, importing fabrics from nine different countries: Morocco, Turkey, India, Uzbekistan, Guatemala, France, Italy, Germany and China. Over 350 costume makers, in 28 studios, have helped sew over 2000 costumes. True Broadway bling is on show with literally millions of Swarovski Crystals: just one costume in the finale Friend Like Me contains no less than 1500 sparkling beads. While the animated film was in development, the character of the Genie was based on jazz greats Cab Calloway and Fats Waller. Though this concept was eventually changed for the film, it was brought back to life for the live show. Broadway case member Trevor Dion Nicholas will make his London stage debut as the Genie. The lead roles of Aladdin and Jasmine will be played by rising British stars Dean John-Wilson (Here Lies Love, Songs from a New World) and Jade Ewen (Porgy and Bess, In the Heights).
