Casey Miller Religions & Tolerance There are many religions in our community The 4 most common are • Christian • Judaism • Islam • Buddhism Tolerance- the practice of deliberately allowing a thing of which one disapproves Religious Toleranceattitude of mind that implies nonjudgmental acceptance of different beliefs or lifestyle Christian Christian followers believe that there religion is the only true religion. They have one of the three main beliefs about other religions. • Exclusivism: other faiths are in grave error and often viewed as opponents. • Inclusivism: other faiths have some truth in them, but are only partly developed. • Pluralism: all faiths are legitimate, valid, and true when viewed from within their particular culture Judaism Judaism says that the beliefs of all nations have a place in the world to come. Although they do not believe in mixing other religions with Judaism due to marriage. This means they are inclusivism religion. Islam Islam consider their religion to the be the true religion and invite people of all races, nationalities and religions. However, Jews and Christians have not been completely responsible with their revelation and should still be called to the Muslim faith. This makes Islam in between exclusivism and inclusivism. This means that Islam thinks other religions are wrong but don’t see them as opponents as much as invite them to their religion. Buddhism The meaning of this religion is a discipline which enables a person to uphold and respect one's own beliefs without in any way being disrespectful or discourteous towards other religions. To this end, we must establish mutual understanding, mutual cooperation with friendliness towards other religions to achieve religious harmony. This religion can be deemed pluralism.
