Hamstring Muscle Group
Vertical Jump Muscle Group
Ischial Tuberosity of Pelvis
Medial Condyle of Tibia
Semimembranosus
(Medial Hamstring)
Semimembranosus (medial Hamstring)
 Origin: Ischial tuberosity (ischum of pelvis)
 Insertion: medial condyle of tibia
 Action:
flexes leg at knee and medially rotates;
extends, adducts, and medially rotates thigh
at hip
Semitendinosus
Semitendinosus
 Origin: Ischial tuberosity with tendon of the long head
of biceps femoris
 Insertion: tibia just below the medial condyle
 Action: flexes leg at knee and medially rotates;
extends, adducts and medially rotates thigh
at hip
Biceps femoris
Biceps femoris
 Origin: LONG HEAD: ischial tuberosity
SHORT HEAD: supracondylar line of femur
 Insertion: lateral side of fibula, lateral condyle of tibia
 Action: flexes and laterally rotates leg at knee;
extends, adducts and laterally rotates thigh at
hip
Gluteus maximus
Gluteus maximus
 Origin: posterior gluteal line of illium, sacrum, and
coccyx
 Insertion: gluteal tuberosity of femur and iliotibial
tract (IT band)
 Action: extends thigh at hip forcefully; upper 2/3 of
muscle is abductor and lower 1/3 is inactive
as abductor or adductor in standing position
Bursitis of Knee
Knee Joint Ligaments
Gracilis
Gracilis
 Origin: lower ½ of symphysis pupis and ramus of pupis
 Insertion: medial surface of tibia just below condyle
 Action: adducts and medially rotates thigh; flexes
and medially rotates leg
Sartorius
Sartorius
 Origin: anterior iliac spine and upper half of notch below
 Insertion: medial surface of tibia just below condyle
 Action: flexes, laterally rotates and abducts thigh as
when crossing your legs
