PHRASES
APPOSITIVE PHRASES
Definition:
Consists of a noun or noun
phrase that renames another
noun right beside it.
APPOSITIVE PHRASES
The appositive can be short or
long.
The appositive will ALWAYS have a
comma in front of it and behind it.

APPOSITIVE PHRASES
Examples:
The insect, a cockroach, is crawling across
the kitchen floor.

VERB PHRASES
Definition:
The verb phrase consist of the
main verb and one or more
helping verbs.
VERB PHRASES
A main verb can stand by itself as the simple
predicate of the sentence.
Example:
Many different people lived in the American colonies.

Helping verbs help the main verb express
action or time.
Example:
Ships from England would bring
supplies to the settlers.
