Warm-Up
1. What is the slope, x-intercept, and yintercept of the function f(x) = .75x + 12.
2. Write the set of all real numbers on the
interval [-2,3) as an inequality using set
notation and then graph on a number line.
Lesson 1.1 Continued:
Domain, Range, and End Behavior
Definitions –
• The domain of a function f(x) is the set of all
input values x.
• The range is the set of all outputs values f(x).
• The end behavior of a function describes what
is happening to f(x) as x increases without
bound (as x approaches positive infinity) and
as x decreases without bound (as x
approaches negative infinity).
Identifying a function’s Domain,
Range, and End Behavior
Ex. 1:
Domain: (, )
Range: (,3)
End Behavior: As x  , f ( x)  ,
as x  , f ( x)  3
Your Turn
Complete Your Turn on pg. 8 of your text.
Ex. 2:
f ( x)  2 x  1 with
a restricted domain
Domain:
(1, 4]
Range: (1, 7]
End Behavior: Can't discuss since x does not approach
positive or negative infinity
Your Turn
Complete Your Turn on pg. 9 of your text.
Do problem 10 only.
Modeling with a Linear Equation:
Example 3A in text (pg. 10)
Your Turn
