UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD MUSIC FACULTY LIBRARY COMPOSER OF THE MONTH
SERIES:
Number 1: April 2008
E. J. MOERAN (1894-1950)
“E. J. Moeran stands as perhaps the greatest unsung genius of English composition. His
music, often lost in the noise and hubbub of the 20th Century, is that of a uniquely beautiful
lyricism, capturing feelings and rural landscapes in a way no other composer ever has.”
Andrew Rose The Worldwide Moeran Database
Championed by Sir Adrian Boult and a good friend of Peter Warlock, Moeran composed a
symphony, two concertos and much else of enduring value and importance.
The Music Faculty Library has a range of books, CDs, vinyl records, scores and sheet
music which comprise a rich resource for anyone rediscovering this neglected composer.
