JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
The Austin, Texas Police Department currently is taking applications for Chief Forensic Officer.
Under general direction, the position manages the DNA, Toxicology, Drug Chemistry and
Firearms Sections.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in
chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics or a natural science combined with
extensive courses in molecular biology and genetics including recombinant deoxyribonucleic
acid (DNA), experience with recombinant DNA methods, plus seven (7) years related work
experience as a Forensic Scientist in a multi-discipline Crime Laboratory, two (2) years of which
were in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
An advanced degree in a related physical or natural science may count towards one (1) year of
experience.
Licenses and Certifications Required
Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications
*Experience in Forensic Laboratory Quality Assurance Activities.
*Possess Accreditation Assessor Training and Experience.
*Possess supervisor or management experience in various laboratory disciplines such as
DNA,Chemistry, Toxicology and Firearms.
Salary Range
Commensurate with Experience
