The inherited combination of genes is known as the
offspring’s genotype. An organism’s inherited appearance
is called its phenotype.
Create a Punnett square showing the cross between two
tall pea plants. Each one has one tall gene and one short
gene.
What are the three possible genotypes for the offspring?
The phenotype of 75% or ¾ of the offspring will be…?
Rocks, Fossils, and Original
Remains Give Clues About the Past
Fossils are traces or remains of living things from
long ago (examples: dinosaur bones, footprints
preserved in stone)
What can fossils tell us?????
Original Remains
Fossils that are the actual bodies
or body parts of organisms are
called original remains
Usually soft parts decay and
disappear. But soft parts can
become fossil evidence if they’re
sealed in a substance that keeps
out air and tiny organisms
Why would these type of fossils
be so important/rare?
Fossil Formation
Usually fossils are only
the hard parts of animal
or plants (teeth, bones,
shells, stems…)
Why hard parts? Why is
this an “issue”? Justify
Built up in rocks that form
under pressure and in
layers…
