Week 4 A five-stage model of hearing and listening; Communication activity: a self-test exercise ’How Good A Listener Are You?’ (interactive group discussion) Week 5 Non-verbal communication messages in (also multicultural) communication – regulators, illustrators, emblems, adaptors, affect displays; Communication activity: group activity on displaying the nonverbal communication as experienced. Week 6 Intro to cultural differences in understanding and perceiving messages; Communication activity: a self-test exercise ’How Accurate Are You At People Perception?’ (interactive group discussion) Week 7 Review on active listening skills: a case study activity in groups; Intro to Interpersonal skills in communication – mindfulness, flexibility, cultural sensitivity, metacommunication; Different understanding of ethics from culture to culture; Communication activity: case study discussion in groups. Week 8 Conflict in Interpersonal Communication; conflict management strategies; Communication activity: A self-test exercise ’How Verbally Aggressive Are You?’; A case study problem solving in groups. Week 9 Public Speech. The goals of public speech (e.g. what is the difference between public speech and presentation?); Things the speaker must know before beginning to speak; How to prepare a speech?; Dress code, the verbal and body language; Preparing an effective speech, and being prepared for the ’unexpected’. Week 10 Phone calls: Telephone phrases; Listening to telephone messages: business calls, arrangements, meetings etc. Translating and fill-in-the gaps exercises. Week 11 Greetings, leaving, getting acquainted, apologies, requests, offering to help, asking permission; Group activity: interactive group work. Week 12 Business letters: formal and informal letters – purpose, style, tone and structure. Group activity in teams of two: writing a formal letter. Writing a reply. Week 13 Assertiveness or apprehension in business communication? A self-test exercise ’How Apprehensive Are You?’; Communication activity: roleplay in teams. Week 14 Reviewing the course study materials. Arranging materials for the final exam. Reviewing for public speech presentatioins. Open discussions. Loengukonspektid, jaotusmaterjalid: Kursuse ettevalmistamise käigus koostatud jaotusmaterjalid õppetöö alguses ja keskel; isiklikud loengukonspektid vastavalt õppejõu poolt esitatud materjalidele praktikumide käigus. Teadmiste kontroll: Maksimum hinne A (suurepärane) = 100%, millest 30% praktikumides osalemine, 30% interaktiivsete ulesannete täitmine praktikumidel ning 40% eksam (20% avalik kõne ehk suuline eksami osa ning 20% kirjalik eksam) Kursuse nõudmised: 1) NB! Kuna kursus on aktiivõppe vormis, st. Praktikum, on oluline kursusel Osalemine, sest antud kursuse õppetöö hindamisel on määravaks aktiivõppele omaste meetmete järgimine. 2) Kursusel osalejatel on oluline kanda nimesilti. 3) Uhest ruhmast teise ule liikumine on välistatud! (Haigestumise korral teiste ruhmade loengutes osalemise soovist anda kindlasti otseselt teada õppejõule)
