Hyperthyroidism. A. Primary hyperthyroidism results from the uncontrolled secretion of thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland, which exerts strong negative
feedback on thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) secretion. B. Secondary hyperthyroidism results from the
uncontrolled secretion of TSH from the anterior pituitary, which drives thyroid hormone secretion. TRH levels are strongly suppressed. T3, triiodothyronine;
T4, thyroxine.
