Role Profile Job Description Job Title Head UK Examinations Business Development India Directorate or Region South Asia Department/Country India Location of post New Delhi Pay Band F Reports to Assistant Director Exams Marketing India Duration of job 3 Years Fixed Term Contract Purpose of job: This role will provide national leadership to the UK Examinations marketing team in India thereby meeting business development objectives and targets and ensuring the British Council meets its overall strategic objectives in India. Context and environment: (e.g. dept. description, region description, organogram) Examinations India: India is a priority country for the British Council and its Examinations Services operation is among the largest in the world with significant targets for growth in volume and income for the years up to 2015. In India, quality education, high proficiency in English and international qualifications are seen to be essential for socio-economic development. Examination Services creates opportunities for individuals desirous of obtaining internationally recognised qualifications without travelling abroad – and in preparation for doing so. In a country with a population of over 1.2 billion and an estimated aspirant (T3) profile of 7 million (and rapidly growing), there is still a vast untapped potential that offers a positive future to Examinations Services in India. Our vision for 2015 is that British Council Examinations Service India will create global opportunities with trusted UK qualifications, enabling millions in India to meet their needs and aspirations for assessment. We will achieve this by growing through standardisation, effective use of technology and partnerships. This is an all India role, operating in a matrix context but reporting directly to Assistant Director Exams Marketing India. It will also have a role in supporting development of business opportunities in Nepal and Bhutan and any other territories within South Asia as required by the region. The postholder will identify and implement strategies for business development, particularly of our English Assessment solutions, including Aptis and other English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) exams as well as our wider portfolio of UK Examinations. South Asia Region: The SA region consists of 7 countries, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran, at least 4 of which are major examinations markets for the British Council. Challenging operating environments are a feature of the region so a strong technological platform is one of the ways that business can be effectively managed. Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties: (including people management and finance) Examinations: Strategic Planning: Develop and deliver marketing plan and strategy for Aptis, ESOL and other UK examinations in India and ensure income and impact targets are achieved; evaluate and review thereafter in consultation with Assistant Director Exams Marketing India to ensure that it delivers maximum impact and return for the British Council. 1 of 4 Analyse the UK examinations market segments and explore opportunities for new markets. Planning marketing activity: Lead the Aptis, ESOL and other UK examinations marketing team functionally to develop and implement annual marketing plans that link to longer term strategic plans; Innovative links are developed between English assessments work and English Partnerships, Corporate Training and teaching Centres particularly in the area of collaborative development of marketing intelligence and strategy. Develop and implement Aptis, ESOL and other UK examinations Communications Plans to ensure consistent and effective messaging and branding including social media engagement Marketing tools and techniques are used to ensure agreed marketing outputs are achieved. Networks & Relationship building: To lead on identification of key strategic relationships and business development opportunities and the management of these relationships where appropriate. This will include multi-national corporations, associations, NGOs and government departments. Leading and developing team: To provide leadership, advice and support to the Aptis, ESOL and other UK examinations marketing team throughout India.
