Peanut butter pinecones
People love to watch birds. The cardinal is the state bird of many states including Ohio.
Learn about this wonderful bird in Cardinal Numbers, a book about Ohio.
In the winter birds can always use help in their search for food. Help feed your local birds
by making a peanut butter pinecone.
Materials
Chunky peanut butter
Large pinecone
Yarn or wire
Bird seed
Spoon
Tie yarn or wire around the bottom of the pinecone. (You will hang it upside down.)
Use a spoon to pack peanut butter between the crevices of the pinecone.
Sprinkle the cone with bird seed.
Hang cone on a window level branch that you can watch.
Enjoy watching the birds eat the treat you gave them.
Ohio is home to the largest concentration of Amish people in the world. Find
the names of the counties where the Amish live in Cardinal Numbers.

Amish Pumpkin Pancakes
Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
Pinch of baking soda
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons sugar
1/8 teaspoon ginger
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1 egg (well-beaten)
1¼ cup milk
2 teaspoon melted shortening
½ cup canned pumpkin
Combine flour, baking soda, sugar, spices.
Combine egg, shortening, pumpkin, and milk. Add to flour
mixture.
Beat until smooth.
Bake on hot, lightly greased griddle. Turn only once.
Serve hot with butter and syrup.

Procedure
1. Fill the tumbler carefully with water until the water seems to be
rounder higher than the glass top.
2. Gently slide one coin at a time down the edge of the glass into the
water.

Try the experiment again. Did you get the same results?
