Electricity Unit Notes – 4/2/2012
Current- measure of flow of electrons (amps)
Electrons- negative particles that create a current
Open Circuit- disconnected circuit (no flow)
Closed Circuit- connected circuit (flow)
DC (Direct Current)- current in only one direction (battery)
AC (Alternating Current)- changes direction
Series Circuit- circuit in a single pathway
Parallel Circuit- circuit with multiple pathways
Power- P= IE ----> Joule’s Law
I – Current (A)
E – Voltage (V)
Voltage- electrical potential, measured in volts
Joules Law- calculates power
Ohm’s Law- calculates the flow of electric current (flow of electrons)
I = E/R
Unit = Amps (A)
Resistance = Ω (Ohm’s)
Units:
I = Current (A)
E = Voltage (V)
R = Resistance (Ω)
