4.1: Cell Theory
Three Parts of the Cell Theory
1. All living things are made of cells
2. All cells come from other cells
3. Cells are the basic unit of life
Janssen: created first compound microscope
Hooke: first to identify and name cells
Leeuwenhoek: made better lenses, observed pond water and bacteria
Schleiden: Plants are made of cells
Schwann: Animals are made of cells
Virchow: All cells come from other cells
4.2: Types of Cells
Prokaryote: Circular DNA, no nucleus, no membrane-bound organelles, smaller
Eukaryote: Endoplasmic reticulum, larger, linear DNA, mitochondria, golgi
Both: Cytoplasm, Cell Membrane, ribosomes, cilia and flagella
Plant Cells: Chloroplast, Cell Wall, Central Vacuole
