ACIE EVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PRE-RESEARCH The objective of the pre-research is to educate the student on Environmental Management terminology that will be used as a beginning grade. These are common terms used in Environmental Management everyday. The student will define each term(s) and explain its importance in global conservation. Define: Lithosphere Atmosphere Hydrosphere Biosphere What are the key elements of the structure of the Earth? Define: core, mantle, asthenosphere, Oceanic and Continental crust. What natural hazards are derived from plate movement? Define: earthquakes, volcanoes and Tsunamis. What pressures has human activity placed upon the resources of the Lithosphere? Define: renewable, non-renewable, alternative and recyclable resources. What are the structural components of the Atmosphere? Define: troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere and thermosphere (ionosphere). Define high and low pressure. How does human activity affect the atmosphere? Define: CFC’s, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and ozone. Define the components of the Hydrologic Cycle. How can water supply be sustained? Define: dams and reservoirs. Define eutrophication. What are the main components and characteristics of ecosystems? Define: biotic, abiotic, biome, succession, biomass, biodiversity, trophic level, habitats and niche. Define forest conservation, wildlife management, ecotourism and ecological island. Identify the conservation organization, WWF. Define population, overpopulation, underpopulation and optimum population.
