PRE-RESEARCH
The objective of the pre-research is to educate the
student on Environmental Management
terminology that will be used as a beginning
grade. These are common terms used in
Environmental Management everyday. The
student will define each term(s) and explain its
importance in global conservation.
Define:
Lithosphere
Atmosphere
Hydrosphere
Biosphere
What are the key elements of the structure of the
Earth? Define: core, mantle, asthenosphere,
Oceanic and Continental crust.
What natural hazards are derived from plate
movement? Define: earthquakes, volcanoes and
Tsunamis.
What pressures has human activity placed upon
the resources of the Lithosphere? Define:
renewable, non-renewable, alternative and
recyclable resources.
What are the structural components of the
Atmosphere? Define: troposphere, stratosphere,
mesosphere and thermosphere (ionosphere).
Define high and low pressure.
How does human activity affect the atmosphere?
Define: CFC’s, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and
ozone.
Define the components of the Hydrologic Cycle.
How can water supply be sustained? Define: dams
and reservoirs.
Define eutrophication.
What are the main components and
characteristics of ecosystems? Define: biotic,
abiotic, biome, succession, biomass, biodiversity,
trophic level, habitats and niche.
Define forest conservation, wildlife management,
ecotourism and ecological island.
Identify the conservation organization, WWF.
Define population, overpopulation,
underpopulation and optimum population.
